Biomedical research pioneer Dr. Joel Wallach spoke about the human body's innate ability to heal itself through natural means and supplementation. Our current health care system does not encourage people to take care of themselves, and Big Pharma seeks to treat people over long periods of time, as they wouldn't make as much money curing people of their ailments in a matter of months, he commented. For thousands of years, humans unknowingly supplemented their diet with minerals by putting wood ashes in their gardens, but with the advent of electricity, people stopped burning wood, and encountered more health problems from mineral deficiencies, he said.

The top 20 cultures for longevity around the world all have rare earth (trace minerals) in their soil, he reported. Vegans, he noted, need to supplement their diet with extra nutrients, unless they're living in an environment that is very high in minerals. Wallach argued that cholesterol is an essential nutrient, and not actually the source of problems. But the statin drugs that are prescribed to millions cause a variety of diseases and disorders including Alzheimer's and hormonal imbalances, he remarked. Trained not only in human health, but in animal health as well, Dr. Joel Wallach has observed results of the agricultural industry that eliminated 900 diseases in animals (that still plague humans) and doubled animal lifespans. In the first half of the show, he discussed the human body's innate ability to heal itself through natural means such as healthy diet and nutrition supplements. All human bodies require 90 essential nutrients-- specific vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and essential fatty acids for health, longevity, strength, intelligence, and fighting off ailments, he said. "If we don't take these nutrients in either naturally or by supplementation, we get all kinds of manifestations of disease like Tourette's Syndrome, cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer's, macular degeneration, and arthritis, he continued.

Wallach believes that many of the diseases that doctors say have a genetic cause, such as heart disease, are actually related to inflammation brought about by consuming such things as fried foods, gluten, oils, and processed meats. Diabetes is also not genetic, it's that the cells are missing a required mineral to understand insulin's message, he suggested. Regarding diet, people in Sardinia live some 30 years longer than Greeks and Italians because they eat a lot of goat's milk and goat's cheese, red wine, and sweet potatoes, and don't consume much wheat, pasta, and olive oil, he stated, adding that he considers all oils bad, as they oxidize and lead to inflammation.

Dr. Joel Wallach reacted to the recent study which claims that vitamins provide no memory or heart benefits. He decried the lack of specific details on the study which dismiss vitamins and declared that the articles about the research "don't even rise to the level of comic books." He also noted that the study is particularly suspicious because it was funded by the drug company Pfizer. "Every function in your body has vitamins and minerals that are required to make them happen," he said, "and so for doctors to say that vitamins and minerals have no positive effects on these things is absolutely deceitful."
