Pharmacist Ben Fuchs addressed natural health remedies and the vitamins, nutrients, and minerals that our bodies need to maintain good health. He commented on a recent study on probiotic supplements, which found they may not always be helpful for everyone. Fuchs noted that the study didn't detail or separate many factors involving the participants, which could significantly affect how well the supplements work for them. "The fact of the matter is that many people get tremendous benefits from probiotic supplements," he remarked. There are many things people do in their everyday lives that can kill off our good bacteria, he continued, including taking antibiotics (which can be hidden in the water supply and various foods), as well as consuming preservatives in foods.

When the body's natural biome is diminished, a person can become more susceptible to fungal infections, he said. The best way to treat such an infection is to starve it out by avoiding sugar, and eating a diet that supports the biome, like one high in fiber. For a caller with an enlarged prostate, Fuchs recommended such supplements as saw palmetto, pumpkin seed oil, vitamins A & D, zinc, and selenium, as well as eating fish and nuts. Another caller asked about cognitive issues or brain fog that her elderly father was experiencing, and he suggested staying away from foods that spike his blood sugar, and possibly taking thiamine, niacin, and EFAs, which can stabilize blood sugar.
