Pharmacist Ben Fuchs discussed natural health remedies and the vitamins, nutrients, and minerals that our bodies need to maintain good health. Weighing in on the subject of alcohol consumption, he said he considers alcohol to be a toxin that has to be processed by the liver, though he conceded that in small amounts, its relaxing effect can be desirable. While we all have parasites in our body, sometimes they can get out of control, in which case he recommended considering the supplement activated charcoal or undergoing a colonic.
For a caller with neuropathy (pain in the hands and feet), he suggested the condition may relate to blood sugar issues. To maintain good health as we get older, we should all treat ourselves as a diabetic, he advised. This means reducing calories, exercising, drinking more water, and taking vitamin B1, which can help with blood sugar problems, he said. For treating mild depression, he said that the herb St. John's Wort can be helpful (as well as for burns), and drinking a glass of water with a pinch of salt can reduce stress.
