Pharmacist Ben Fuchs discussed natural health remedies and the vitamins, nutrients, and minerals that our bodies need to maintain good health. While many people use moisturizers to treat or prevent dry skin, Fuchs suggested that they actually suppress your skin's natural moisture factor. Instead, he recommended that people take EFAs (essential fatty acids) which "will make your skin naturally soft and moist." Regarding sun damage, he continued, one of the best things you can do to protect your skin is to take antioxidants associated with eye health, like lutein and zeaxanthin. "You'll notice that over the course of time, you're not burning as readily, and you don't have the same need for sunscreen, which...[contains] among the most toxic chemicals in the entire cosmetics business," he commented.
Fuchs also stressed the importance of drinking plenty of water. A good time to drink water is the first thing in the morning when we're dehydrated after sleeping, he said. "When you start drinking more water, you'll notice all of a sudden you have more energy...[and] you're not as hungry because the water is satisfying," he detailed. However, Fuchs added that with increased water consumption, you should make sure you're replacing your electrolytes and vitamin C, and water-soluble vitamins, which otherwise can be flushed out of the system. In reference to a listener with neuropathy, he advised eliminating or reducing refined carbohydrates from the diet, and taking the supplements selenium and niacin.
